Most broadband companies have special sales teams or “retention” departments for when you wish to cancel your service.  Members on these special teams receive a cash comission called a “save” when you do not cancel so it’s in their best interest to get you to stay on with them by offering you incentives.

Here’s a way you can try to reduce your monthly broadband bill that usually works provided you didn’t sign a contract with your broadband provider.

Let’s say you subscribe to Comcast.  Call 1-800-COMCAST, press the number to “Change or Cancel Service”. Once there, tell them you’re considering switching to a different provider.  They will usually give you a short pitch, offer you a promotional rate which you accept which can save you a few hundred dollars per year.  If they don’t offer you anything, ask if there are any promotional rates they can offer that are better than the current rate you’re receiving.

If the promotional rate they offer is good for only six months, then take it and call them back in six months and ask again.  A majority of times, they will extend you the rate for another six months or more since they will receive a subsequent “save” commission out of the deal.
