Several of my Charleston computer clients have asked me about privacy in lieu of recent events. Unfortunately, I feel that particular boat has left the dock a while ago.  Some folks are flocking to anonymous search engines like DuckDuckGo.  In fact, they’ve had an increase of over 3 million searches in the last few days.

I have used DuckDuckGo but the quality of its results have been slipping.  I found out about a service called startpage I like which actually uses google’s search engine, but runs it through their servers to add a layer of anonymity, and they don’t log anything.

To use StartPage to do anonymous (not logged) encrypted (not snoopable by your ISP) searches, visit https://startpage.com To set this search as your homepage, click the link that says “Set as homepage” and follow the instructions.
